Saint Anthony of Padua was a Catholic Priest from Portugal, who lived and worked as a friar of the Franciscan Order. Born into an esteemed family in Lisbon, Portugal, he attended a local cathedral school. At the age of 15, he joined an Augustinian community. He was later sent to Coimbra, where he spent 9 years studying the Augustinian theology intensely. Sometime around these years, while he was in his early 20s, he was ordained as a priest. The return of the dead bodies of a few Franciscan friars from Morocco turned out to be the turning point of his life. At that point, he decided that he would be a Franciscan friar. He later combined his Augustine faith with Franciscan ideologies. He made it his mission to preach among the Muslims in the Middle East and fully accepted the chances of martyrdom. Over the years, he traveled around the world, gaining a reputation as a miracle worker and a great preacher/orator. He was later made the patron saint of lost things and a ‘Doctor of the Church.’
