António Guterres is a former Prime Minister of Portugal. In January 2017, he began his five-year term as the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. As the chief administrative officer of the United Nations (UN), Guterres is responsible for fighting hunger, promoting peace, and protecting millions of refugees around the world. In January 2018, he declared migration can benefit the world and that UN is willing to help refugees settle down in their respective host countries. Before assuming the office of the Secretary-General of the UN, Guterres served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He was also a member of the team that negotiated Portugal’s entry into the ‘European Union.’ In public polls conducted in 2012 and 2014, he was voted as the best Prime Minister of Portugal of the previous 30 years.
