Manuel González Prada

Jose Manuel de los Reyes González Prada y Ulloa was a Peruvian politician, anarchist, literary critic, and director of the National Library of Peru. He was the first writer to criticize the oligarchy within Peru and played a significant role in developing Peruvian intellectual thought in the early twentieth century. Known for his social critiques, he also contributed to the academic style of modernismo. González Prada's work was comparable to that of Clorinda Matto de Turner and Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera, who also engaged in social and political commentary.
