Hernando Arias de Saavedra, also known as Hernandarias, was a soldier and politician of criollo ancestry. He achieved historical significance as the first person born in the Americas to serve as a governor of a European colony in the New World. Hernandarias held two terms as governor of the Governorate of the Río de la Plata and one term as governor of the Governorate of Paraguay. During the late 16th and early 17th centuries, he played a crucial role in governing and administrating these regions.
