Gabriel Lewis Galindo was a Panamanian entrepreneur and diplomat known for his expertise in foreign policy. As Panama's ambassador to the United States in the 1970s, he played a crucial role in facilitating agreements that led to the transfer of sovereignty over the Panama Canal to Panama in 2000. He had commercial interests including a bank and a brewery. Despite his elite background, he supported the populist government that came to power in 1968 and established a close relationship with General Omar Torrijos.
