Janet Mikhail, also known as Janet Michael or Janet Khouri, is a Palestinian Christian who made history as the first female mayor of Ramallah in the West Bank, Palestine. Before becoming mayor, she spent twenty years as a dedicated head teacher at a girls' school in Ramallah. In 2005, Mikhail was selected by the city council to serve as mayor. Running as an independent candidate affiliated with the "Ramallah for All" list, she secured the mayoral position with the backing of multiple council factions.
