Description:
(Northern Irish militant and politician) David Walter Ervine was a Northern Irish Ulster Loyalist and politician who led the Progressive Unionist Party (PUP) from 2002 to 2007. He also represented Belfast East as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) from 1998 to 2007. Initially associated with the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), Ervine's time in prison prompted a shift towards a political strategy for loyalism. He was instrumental in securing the loyalist ceasefire of 1994 and played a pivotal role within the PUP.
