Kim Jong-nam was formerly seen as the successor to his father, the North Korean leader, but he lost favor following several incidents. This included an unsuccessful attempt to visit Tokyo Disneyland using a fake passport. He was subsequently banished from North Korea and became a vocal opponent of his family's government. There are indications that he had connections to the CIA prior to his murder in Malaysia in 2017.
