Hong Il-chon, a graduate in Russian Literature, had an active professional life post her divorce from Kim Jong Il. She served as a member of the Supreme People's Assembly from 1977 to 1991 and later became the principal of Kim Hyong Jik University of Education in 1991. She held this position until her retirement in July 2012. Throughout her career, she remained involved in politics and educational affairs, contributing significantly to the field of education in North Korea.
