(The First and Only Premier of Northern Nigeria) Ahmadu Ibrahim Bello, known as Sardauna of Sokoto, was a prominent Nigerian statesman and conservative politician. He was the first and only premier of the Northern region of Nigeria from 1954 until his assassination in 1966. Bello was a key figure in the Northern People's Congress and played a dominant role in national affairs for over a decade. Before his political career, he was a member of the Sokoto Caliphate dynasty and had aspirations of becoming Sultan of Sokoto.
