(11th President of Nigeria) Abdulsalami Abubakar, a retired Nigerian army general, served as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1998 to 1999. He also held the position of Chief of Defence Staff from 1997 to 1998. During his leadership, Nigeria adopted a modified version of the 1979 constitution allowing for multiparty elections. He oversaw the peaceful transition of power to President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, playing a key role in promoting peace and stability in Nigeria.
