Anastasio "Tachito" Somoza Debayle served as the 53rd President of Nicaragua, with two terms from 1967 to 1972 and 1974 to 1979. Leading the National Guard, he held significant control over the country during his presidency. Somoza was the last in his family to govern Nicaragua, marking the end of their power which began in 1937. In 1979, he fled the country as opposition forces approached Managua, ultimately relinquishing power to the Junta of National Reconstruction. Somoza met his demise in exile in Paraguay in 1980.
