Bidya Devi Bhandari is a former Nepali politician who served as the second president of Nepal from 2015 to 2023, becoming the first woman to hold this office in the country. Prior to her presidency, she held roles as Minister of Defence and Minister of Environment and Population. Bhandari was also the vice-chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) and chair of the All Nepal Women's Association. She is recognized for her advocacy for environmental awareness and women's rights in Nepal, as well as her involvement in international efforts for nature conservation and sustainable development.
