Moulay Ismail Ibn Sharif ruled as the Sultan of Morocco from 1672 to 1727. He was known for his exceptional military leadership and adept diplomatic relations with foreign nations. Ismail constructed a formidable army, including the 'Guichs' and the Black Guard, which allowed him to consolidate his authority and extend Moroccan territory. He successfully fought against the Ottoman Regency of Algiers and various European powers, capturing new territories and driving Europeans out of Moroccan ports. Ismail's reign also witnessed the development of a magnificent citadel and palace complex in Meknes, solidifying its status as the capital of his realm.
