He played a key role in campaigns against Jin China and the Khwarazmian Empire, gaining a reputation for his harsh tactics. Despite being a top contender to succeed Genghis Khan, Tolui was overlooked in favor of his brother Ögedei. He later served as regent of the Mongol Empire and participated in victorious military expeditions alongside Ögedei before his sudden passing.
