Horloogiyn Choybalsan

Khorloogiin Choibalsan was a prominent Mongolian politician who occupied significant leadership roles in the Mongolian People's Republic, such as chairman of the Council of Ministers, commander-in-chief of the Mongolian People's Army, and chairman of the Presidium of the State Little Khural. He came to power in the 1930s with backing from Joseph Stalin and maintained his authority through a repressive regime and a cult of personality. Choibalsan oversaw a dictatorship and carried out Stalinist purges in Mongolia, fostering closer relations with the Soviet Union and advocating for pan-Mongolian unification with Inner Mongolia until his passing in 1952.
