Description:
(Prince) Jacques I served as Prince of Monaco and Duke of Valentinois, as well as Count of Thorigny. He was regent for his wife, Princess Louise Hippolyte, until her death. During his regency, he neglected state affairs, leading to public discontent. He eventually abdicated in favor of his son, Honoré. Following his abdication, he spent his remaining years in Versailles and Paris, where he maintained a residence at the Hôtel Matignon. Despite proposals for a second marriage, he never remarried.
