Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán, better known as as Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez, is an accomplished Mexican professional boxer. Álvarez is a triple champion and has held several world championship titles. These include the unified ‘World Boxing Association (WBA) Super,’ the ‘World Boxing Council’ (WBC), and ‘The Ring Championship.’ He has held the lineal middleweight titles (since 2018), the ‘WBA (Regular)’ super middleweight title (since December 2018), and the ‘International Boxing Federation’ (IBF) middleweight title (since May 2019). Earlier, from 2011 to 2013, he held the ‘WBA (Unified),’ the ‘WBC,’ and ‘The Ring’ light middleweight titles. Between 2015 and 2018, he held the ‘WBC,’ ‘The Ring,’ and the lineal middleweight titles, while from 2016 to 2017, he held the ‘World Boxing Organization’ (WBO) light middleweight title. Known to be a great counterpuncher and a terrific body puncher, the boxer remained undefeated in his first 43 professional bouts, of which he won 30 by knockout. As of December 2018, ‘BoxRec’ ranked him as the world's best active boxer, pound for pound. ‘The Ring’ ranked him third and the ‘Boxing Writers Association of America’ ranked him eighth. ‘BoxRec’ and the ‘Transnational Boxing Rankings Board’ also ranked him as the world's best active middleweight boxer.
