Antigonus I Monophthalmus

Antigonus I Monophthalmus was a Macedonian Greek general and successor of Alexander the Great. He played a significant role in Alexander's army and controlled large parts of his former empire. In 306 BC, Antigonus assumed the title of basileus and established the Antigonid dynasty, ruling over Macedonia. He served under Philip II of Macedon and participated in Alexander's invasion of Persia. Antigonus became a prominent leader among Alexander's successors, governing regions including Greece, Asia Minor, Syria, Phoenicia, and northern Mesopotamia until his defeat and death at the Battle of Ipsus in 301 BC.
