(Doctor) Jonas Basanavičius was a key figure in the Lithuanian National Revival, renowned for his efforts towards the country's independence. He studied medicine and practiced as a doctor in Bulgaria while actively promoting Lithuanian culture. Basanavičius established the first Lithuanian-language newspaper, collected and published Lithuanian folklore, and engaged in local politics.
