Description:
(Government Official) Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi was a well-known Libyan individual with a varied professional background. He held positions as the head of security for Libyan Arab Airlines and as the director of the Centre for Strategic Studies in Tripoli, Libya. Moreover, he was linked to being a suspected Libyan intelligence officer. Notably, in 2001, al-Megrahi was found guilty by a group of Scottish judges for his role in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988. Despite several unsuccessful attempts to appeal the conviction, he was given permission to appeal in 2007, only to later withdraw the appeal in 2009.
