Omar Mukhtar

Omar Mukhtar transitioned from a teacher to a general and emerged as a significant leader in Cyrenaica, leading the native resistance against Italian colonization. As an Imam and a pivotal member of the Senussi movement, he orchestrated and directed the Libyan resistance during the First and Second Italo-Senussi Wars. Mukhtar also engaged in battles against French colonization in Chad and British occupation in Egypt. Despite numerous efforts, he was eventually captured and executed by Italian forces in 1931 for his refusal to surrender, subsequently becoming a symbol of resistance in the Arab and Islamic spheres.
