(Director) Asja Lācis was a Latvian actress and theatre director recognized for her contributions in Soviet Russia and Latvia during the 1920s. She specialized in establishing proletarian theatre groups for children and agitprop performances. Lācis promoted the use of children's theatre for educational purposes, especially for disadvantaged youth. Later on, she relocated to Germany and worked alongside prominent individuals such as Bertolt Brecht and Erwin Piscator. Lācis notably influenced the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, shaping his adoption of Marxism.
