Hidaya Sultan al-Salem was a pioneering Kuwaiti journalist and author, known for owning and editing one of Kuwait's earliest political magazines, al-Majalis. She was Kuwait's first female editor of a publication and a prominent feminist and secularist figure. Al-Salem advocated against corruption and fought for women's rights and suffrage in Kuwait. Tragically, she became the first journalist to be killed in Kuwait since 1992, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
