Aseel al-Awadhi is a former member of the National Assembly of Kuwait and a professor of philosophy at Kuwait University. She entered politics in 2008, gaining the highest number of votes for a female candidate at the time. In 2009, she was elected as a representative for Kuwait's Third District, making her one of the first women to hold such a position in the National Assembly. Al-Awadhi briefly returned to parliament in 2012 but chose to boycott the 2012 election in protest.
