(Novelist) Margaret Atieno Ogola was a renowned Kenyan Catholic novelist and pediatrician. She was known for her acclaimed novels such as The River and the Source and its sequel, I Swear by Apollo. Ogola also served as the medical director of Cottolengo Hospice, a facility dedicated to caring for HIV and AIDS orphans. Her literary career was marked by success, with her debut novel winning the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for best first book, Africa Region. Ogola continued to make significant contributions to literature with her final book, Mandate of the People, which was completed before her passing.
