Takanohana Koji is a Japanese former professional sumo wrestler and coach. He reached sumo's highest rank of yokozuna, winning 22 tournament championships. Known for his solid and aggressive style, he set age-related records and was the youngest ever to reach the top division at 17. Takanohana had a successful career marked by injuries in his later years. He retired in 2003 at age 30 and became the head coach of Takanohana stable. He served on the board of directors of the Japan Sumo Association until 2018.
