Gianluigi Buffon is an Italian footballer, considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He is the captain of his local team, ‘Juventus,’ and also served as the captain of the Italian national football team, until his retirement in 2017. Buffon is one of the most well-known players in the international football scene and has played in more than 1000 games, including 170 international outings. He is known among his teammates as a motivator and a man with a great understanding of the game. Sports analysts regard him as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He set a record for not letting a single goal pass by him in the 2015–16 season. He has been named the ‘World’s Best Goalkeeper,’ by the ‘IFFHS,’ for a record five times, and has also been regarded as the greatest goalkeeper of the 21st century, by the same organization. In 2016, he got the ‘Golden Foot Award,’ which is a rarity for a goalkeeper. Despite a great career, he has also been a part of several controversies from time to time, including allegations of betting. Although he was cleared from the betting charges later, it had a negative effect on his reputation. He announced his retirement from international football in 2017.
