David

David was a king of ancient Israel and Judah, known as the third king of the United Monarchy. His reign is chronicled in the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament. David ascended the throne of Judah in 885 BCE. He was a skilled shepherd and harpist who gained fame by defeating Goliath. David was anointed king by the tribes of Judah and Israel, conquered Jerusalem, and brought the Ark of the Covenant there. Despite controversies surrounding his reign, David is revered as an ideal king and forefather of the Hebrew Messiah.
