Mir Damad was a prominent Twelver Shia Iranian philosopher in the Neoplatonizing Islamic Peripatetic traditions of Avicenna. He was highly regarded in the cultural renaissance of Iran under the Safavid dynasty, along with his student Mulla Sadra. Together, they founded the School of Isfahan, and Mir Damad was recognized as the Third Teacher (mu'alim al-thalith) after Aristotle and al-Farabi. His significant contributions to philosophy and Islamic thought have had a lasting impact on intellectual discourse in Iran.
