Ur-Nammu established the Sumerian Third Dynasty of Ur in southern Mesopotamia following a period of foreign rule. He is renowned for creating the Ur III Empire through military conquests and for his focus on constructing temples, canals, and infrastructure. His most significant contribution is the Code of Ur-Nammu, the earliest known legal code. Holding the titles of "King of Ur, and King of Sumer and Akkad," he was a skilled ruler who made lasting administrative and legislative advancements that influenced Sumerian society.
