Nabopolassar

Description: (king)
Nabopolassar established and ruled as the first king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 626 BC to 605 BC. He successfully rebelled against the Neo-Assyrian Empire, leading Babylonia to independence through years of conflict. With the backing of the Median Empire, he effectively expelled the Assyrians from Babylonia and conducted campaigns to fortify the borders. Nabopolassar's military skill was apparent in the ruthless sackings of Assyrian cities, notably Nineveh. His reputation as a warrior chosen by Marduk remained as a symbol of defiance against foreign rule in Babylon.
