Description:
(Military commander)
Shapur II, also known as Shapur the Great, was the longest-reigning monarch in Iranian history, serving as the tenth Sasanian King of Kings. His rule was characterized by a military resurgence and territorial expansion, which ushered in the first Sasanian golden era. He earned the nickname 'Dhū'l-Aktāf' for his successful military campaigns against Arab insurrections. Shapur II enforced a strict religious policy that included completing the collection of the Avesta and punishing heresy and apostasy. He persecuted Christians in response to the Christianization of the Roman Empire but showed favoritism towards Jews, granting them relative freedom and advantages.
