Ardashir I, also known as Ardashir the Unifier, founded the Persian Sasanian Empire by overthrowing the Arsacid dynasty and establishing the Sasanian dynasty. He defeated the last Parthian shahanshah and expanded his empire through conquests and petroglyphs to commemorate his victories. Ardashir developed a royal ideology highlighting his divine connection and legitimizing his reign. His rule reshaped Iranian history, with the region under Sasanian control being referred to as "Iran."
