Asghar Farhadi is an Oscar-winning Iranian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He has won two Oscars in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category for his films ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Salesman’. Farhadi was born in Homayoun Shahr, located in the Isfahan province. He earned a BA in dramatic arts and an MA in stage direction from the University of Tehran and Tarbiat Modares University, respectively. At the beginning of his career, he made several short films for the Isfahan branch of the Iranian Young Cinema Society. He also directed a few TV shows. He made his debut as a screenwriter in 2002 with the film ‘Low Heights’. The next year, he made his directorial debut with ‘Dancing in the Dust’. His popularity reached an international level after the film ‘A Separation’ was released. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, becoming the first Iranian film to win the award. His film, ‘The Salesman’, which he wrote, directed, and co-produced, became his second film to win an Oscar.
