Ólafur Arnalds is an Icelandic multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer known for soundtracks like ‘Another Happy Day’, ‘Gimme Shelter’ and Broadchurch; and albums like ‘Eulogy for Evolution’ and ‘re:member’. He forayed into music as a drummer and performed for several Icelandic metal bands before landing into the neo-classical field, somewhat by chance. He accepted offer from the German band ‘Heaven Shall Burn’ and composed and recorded piano-and-string pieces for their album ‘Antigone’ after the band heard some of his solo demo material. The pieces impressed Erased Tapes label founder Robert Raths which resulted in Arnalds' first studio album, ‘Eulogy for Evolution’. Moving on, he released other albums like ‘For Now I Am Winter’ and ‘Re:member’. While the former marked his first album that included vocals, the latter featured the distinctive custom-built software Stratus and debuted on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart at #8. Meanwhile, he formed the minimal, experimental techno duo, Kiasmos, with Janus Rasmussen. They started off with a split 12"' release, ‘65/Milo’, along with Rival Consoles and then went on to release their debut album ‘Kiasmos’ and EPs like ‘Looped’ and ‘Blurred’. Arnalds also earned acclaim for scoring in the films ‘Another Happy Day’ and ‘Gimme Shelter’ and in BBC TV series ‘Broadchurch’.
