Björk Guðmundsdóttir is a renowned Icelandic singer known for her work in alternative music. She is also celebrated for writing her own songs and producing her albums. Born and raised in Reykjavík, Iceland, Björk showed an interest in music from a very young age. At just 11 years old, she released her first recorded album titled Björk, which attracted the attention of record labels. Throughout her early career, she was part of several bands, including Spit and Snot, Jam-80, Exodus, and most notably, The Sugarcubes. She has released ten full-length studio albums, along with numerous remix albums and live recordings. Over the years, Björk has collaborated with a wide range of notable artists, including Matmos, DJ Thomas Knak, Zeena Parkins, Timbaland, Thom Yorke, Tanya Tagaq, Rahzel, Dokaka, Mike Patton, Robert Wyatt, and Mark Bell. Björk has also worked in films, most famously starring in Dancer in the Dark, for which she won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. She also contributed the soundtrack to the film Selmasongs, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song (not a win). She was in a long-term relationship with artist Matthew Barney, with whom she has a daughter. She also has a son from a previous relationship with her former bandmate from The Sugarcubes, Þór Eldon.
