Faye Wong is a well-known Chinese singer-songwriter and actress. She has 10 Cantonese and 10 Mandarin studio albums to her credit. Often referred to as "the Diva", she has also recorded songs in Japanese, French and English and has released three live albums. Raised in Mainland China, she took regular part in school functions despite the fact that her mother, herself a professional musician, was dead against it. Undeterred, she continued to nurture her passion and released six albums in the form of low cost cassette while studying in her high school. At the age of eighteen, she moved with her family to Hong Kong, where after a stint in modeling, she once again picked up music and signed contract with Cinepoly Records. Although initially she sang in Cantonese, she shifted to Mandarin at the age of 25. Concurrently, she also started appearing on screen, becoming especially known for her film roles in ‘Chungking Express’ and ‘2046’.
