(Politician) Xiomara Castro Sarmiento, also known as Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, is the current president of Honduras, having assumed office in January 2022. She is the first female president in the history of the country. Prior to her presidency, Castro was actively involved in the Liberal Party of Honduras and the National Popular Resistance Front. She ran for president in the 2013 and 2017 elections before successfully winning the presidency in 2021, breaking the traditional dominance of the two-party system. In 2023, Forbes recognized her as one of the "World's 100 most powerful women."
