Description:
(Artist) Laurent Casimir was a renowned Haitian artist known for his significant contributions to the archetype market painting movement. He began his artistic career in the late 1940s and was introduced to the Centre d'Art in 1947 by his friend Dieudonné Cedor. Casimir attended the Foyer of Fine Arts from 1950 to 1956, where he honed his unique style characterized by the use of red, orange, and yellow shades. His style was often imitated, leading to challenges in authenticating paintings attributed to him. In the mid-1970s, he resided in Martissant, overseeing his apprentices who helped complete his canvases, which were later signed by him.
