Toto Bissainthe was a Haitian actress and singer known for blending traditional Vodou and rural themes with contemporary music. She began her career in theatre with Les Griots in 1956, a pioneering African theatre company in Paris. Transitioning to a successful singer-songwriter-composer, she delivered powerful performances that honored the lives and struggles of working-class and rural Haitians. Forced into exile due to political unrest in Haiti, she longed to return and contribute to her homeland's recovery but passed away in 1994.
