(Writer, Politician) Mario Monteforte Toledo was a prominent Guatemalan writer, dramatist, and politician who held various key positions in the governments of Juan José Arévalo and Jacobo Arbenz. He served as Ambassador to the United Nations, a deputy in the National Congress, President of the Congress, and Vice-President before retiring from politics. Following the fall of the Arbenz administration, he lived in exile in Mexico until 1987. Recognized for his mastery of narrative prose, Monteforte received the Guatemala National Prize in Literature in 1993.
