(Politician) Carlos Castillo Armas, a Guatemalan military officer and politician, served as the 28th president of Guatemala from 1954 to 1957. He belonged to the right-wing National Liberation Movement (MLN) party and rose to power through a coup d'état backed by the United States. Castillo Armas was instrumental in ousting President Jacobo Árbenz and reversing agricultural reforms, suppressing unions and peasant groups. Despite encountering opposition and facing allegations of corruption, he maintained a strong relationship with the US until his assassination in 1957.
