Max Schmeling was a renowned German boxer who held the world heavyweight championship from 1930 to 1932. He gained fame through his fights with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938. Schmeling won the heavyweight title by disqualification in 1930 and despite a loss to Max Baer in 1933, he continued his boxing career. After serving in the German Air Force during World War II, Schmeling returned to boxing before retiring in 1948. Post-retirement, he worked for The Coca-Cola Company and developed a lasting friendship with Joe Louis.
