Description:
(Monk)
Maximus the Confessor began his career as a civil servant for the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius before transitioning to a monastic life. He became a Christian monk, theologian, and scholar, studying various schools of philosophy such as Aristotle and Plato. Maximus was involved in the Christological controversy over Monothelitism, arguing for the belief in Jesus having both a human and divine will. Despite persecution and exile, his theology was later affirmed by the Third Council of Constantinople.
