Omar Bongo

Description: (2nd President of Gabon, 2nd Vice-President of Gabon)
Omar Bongo Ondimba was a Gabonese politician who served as the second president of Gabon for nearly 42 years. He initially gained prominence in the 1960s under Gabon's first President Léon M'ba and later became vice-president in 1966, eventually succeeding M'ba as president in 1967. Bongo led the single-party regime of the Gabonese Democratic Party until 1990 when he introduced multi-party politics. Despite facing opposition, he maintained power by co-opting major opposition leaders. Bongo's rule was criticized for prioritizing personal gain over the well-being of Gabon and its people.
