(Gabonese diplomat) Jean Ping is a well-known Gabonese diplomat and politician with a long career in international relations. He served as Chair of the African Union Commission from 2008 to 2012, making him the first person of Chinese descent to lead the executive branch of the African Union. Before this, he held various positions in the Gabonese Republic, including Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Francophonie. Ping was also President of the United Nations General Assembly and ran in the 2016 Gabonese presidential election.
