Michel Ney, better known as Marshal Ney, was a French military commander. He is best remembered for his contribution in the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolutionary Wars. He was one of the original 14 marshals of the empire, an old military rank restored by Napoleon. He was also the 1st Duke of Elchingen and the 1st Prince of the Moskva.Ney was kno wn as “le rougeaud” (meaning "red-faced") by his colleagues. He also earned the nickname “le brave des braves” ("the bravest of the brave") from Napoleon. After siding with the Bourbon royalty for a brief while, Ney went back to Napoleon’s side. However, following the Bourbon royalty’s return to power, Ney was arrested and put before a firing squad. He is still regarded by the French as a valiant commander.
