(Finnish Rally Driver) Pentti Airikkala, a celebrated member of the "Flying Finns" in world rallying, enjoyed a remarkable career lasting four decades. He was known for his successful yet sporadic appearances in World Rally Championship (WRC) events, including a memorable victory at the 1989 RAC Rally while driving a Group A Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. Participating in 36 WRC events, Airikkala earned 102 points and achieved his best overall finish of 9th in the 1981 Drivers' Championship. After retiring, he established a respected rally driving school in Oxfordshire, where he mentored aspiring champions such as Colin McRae and Richard Burns.
