Giyorgis of Segla

Description: (Author)
Giyorgis of Segla, also known as Giyorgis of Gasicha or Abba Giyorgis, was an Ethiopian Oriental Orthodox monk and author of religious books. His work greatly influenced Ethiopian monastic calendars, hymns, and Ge'ez literature, establishing him as one of the most significant Ge'ez writers in fifteenth-century Ethiopia. Giyorgis was involved in a controversy concerning Sabbath in Christianity, which led to a falling out with Emperor Dawit I. Despite this, he continued his work under the reigns of Tewodros I and Yeshaq I.
